April 20, 2011 – The Victoria Generals have announced the signing of former Cuero Gobbler Ross Goebel to their 2011 summer roster.
Goebel, a 2009 graduate of Cuero High School, is currently in his sophomore season at North Central Texas College in Gainesville where he serves as the ace of the team’s starting rotation.
Goebel currently holds a record of 5-2 on the season with a 3.26 ERA. He has 40 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched.
“Ross was a natural fit for us,” commented Blake Koch, GM of the Victoria Generals. “Ross is a great pitcher whose home town is right here in our backyard.”
Goebel was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A All-State Baseball Team back in 2009 following his senior season at Cuero. Goebel was selected to the first-team as a designated hitter and the third-team as a pitcher. Goebel was also the District 28-3A Most Valuable Player after tallying an 8-0 record on the mound to go along with a 1.17 ERA in 43 innings pitched as a senior.
Goebel has already signed a letter of intent to play at Texas State University next season.
As a freshman at NCTC, Goebel led the team in ERA with a 2.63 mark while mainly serving as the team’s closer. Goebel compiled a record of 4-1 to go along with four saves while striking out 28 batters in 23 innings. |
