The Victoria Generals have announced the signing of former Memorial High star, Trent Wagner, to their 2011 summer roster.
Wagner, a sophomore at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, with help fill the void left in the Generals outfield due to the departure of former two-year starters Mark Hudson and Andrew Russell who will both be seniors in the spring and out of eligibility to return next summer.
“Trent is a great pickup for us,” said Generals GM Blake Koch. “He is a legitimate five tool player that still has a lot of upside and will only get better as he grows into his body.”
The 6’3”, 190 pound Wagner had a stellar senior year at Memorial High School, earning first team all-district, academic all-district, and all-area honors after finishing with a .434 batting average for the Vipers. Before transferring to Memorial, Wagner was a multi-sport athlete at St. Joseph High School, lettering in four different sports for the Flyers. Wagner earned TAPPS first team all-state honors as a defensive back in football.
As a freshman at Kingsville, Wagner started in 40 games, mostly in right field. Wagner hit .315 with eight doubles, one triple, two homeruns, and 25 RBI. Wagner also added 10 walks and 15 stolen bases.
“Trent is a familiar face here in the Victoria community and is the type of player that we believe our fans will love to come out and watch play every night as he grows and matures as a player and a person,” Koch stated.
