Generals Lose a Tough Battle in Extra Innings
May 29, 2021 – The Victoria Generals fall to the Flying Chanclas in a hard fought extra inning game tonight at Wolff Stadium 5-4. Both teams would score a run in the 10th inning that would drive the game to the 11th inning with the score all even at 4-4. The Generals would fail to score in the top half of the inning and the Flying Chanclas would score the game winner on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Chase Sanguinetti had an outstanding night at the plate going 5-5 on the evening with a pair of RBI’s and a run scored. Chase is off to an awesome start after two games and is leading the league hitting (.667) on the season.
The Generals would jump out to an early lead with a sacrifice fly from Kyler Bumstead that would score Travis Faix as the Generals would take a 1-0 lead. The Flying Chanclas would also plate a run in the first as the teams would head to the 2nd inning all tied at one.
The score would remain tied 1-1 until the bottom of the 4th when former General Zac Vooletich would score on a sacrifice fly from Trey Hoech as the Flying Chanclas would take a 2-1 lead in the game.
Pitching would hold strong for both teams until the 8th inning when the Generals would plate a pair of runs on in the inning as Sanguinetti would double to right field scoring Travis Faix and the Generals would even the score at 2-2. Bumstead would single to center field, scoring Sanguinetti as the Generals would take the lead 3-2 lead.
The Flying Chanclas would even the score in the bottom of the 9th and send the game into extra innings. Sanguinetti would once again come through with his fifth hit of the night scoring Austin Ochoa as the Generals would take a 4-3 lead heading to the bottom of the 10th. The Flying Chanclas would even the score and move the game to the 11th inning.
The Generals would fail to score in the top of the 11th and the Flying Chanclas would plate a run on a hit by pitch game winner from Generals pitcher Tyler Delong as the Generals would fall for a second night in heart breaking fashion. The Generals will wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon at Wolff Stadium with a 2:05 first pitch.
The Generals home opener is set for Tuesday evening as the Generals take on the defending champion Brazos Valley Bombers.
