Generals Bomb the Bombers

Generals Extend Their Win Streak Over Dominant Performance Against the Bombers

July 19, 2022- The Generals are coming off of a comeback win from last night against the Baton Rouge Rougarou where they won 6-4 on Free Ticket Night presented by Caterpillar. They hit the road to take on the Brazos Valley Bombers for game one of a two-game series. The Generals are currently 9-1-1 in the second half of TCL and are looking to add another win tonight as winning seems to be a big theme for the new look Generals.

Jackson Hardy got the Generals started off with a lead-off double. The Generals bats were hot as the third baseman Adam Becker brought in the first run off of an RBI. Due to a wild pitch from the Bombers, Malachi Lott took off from second and rounded his way home to extend the Generals lead 2-0 in the top of the first. Following a hot start from the Generals, the Bombers could not respond as they went down in order.

Going into the bottom of the third, with two outs, the Generals catcher steps up to the plate hoping to extend their lead. Mendoza gets hit by a pitch which brought in Chase Sanguinetti. Brandon Galindo then followed that up with an RBI single that brought in Reed Spenrath to extend the lead 4-0 in three innings played. The Bombers did respond in the top of the fourth with a run of their own off of an RBI double from the Bombers Riley Bender to make the score 4-1.

The Generals quickly responded in the top of the fifth due to an fielding error by the Bombers which brought in Mendoza. The Bombers struggled to get something going at the plate as the Generals defesnse was dominant tonight. The starting pitcher for the Generals, Braylon Owens, pitched a total of five innings and only allowed three hits and one earned run while handing the Bombers six striekouts.

Despite the defensive effort from the Bombers, the Generals kept the bats hot at the plate. Going into the top of the sixth, Cameron Nickens, the Generals shortstop, hit an RBI double to help extend the lead 6-1. The Generals made a pitching change to Hunter Kloesel who closed out the game and only allowed two hits, no earned runs, and two strikeouts. Sanguinetti hit an RBI in the top of the seventh to bring in Galindo and shortly after, Hardy scored off of a passed ball to further the Generals lead to 8-1.

Both the Bombers and Generals went scoreless in the last two innings of the ball game due to excellent defense dispalyed by both teams. The Generals are on fire in the second half of TCL play and showed that they are not done yet after defeating the Bombers tonight with a final score of 8-1.

The Generals will be back in action tomorrow night for game two of the two-game series against the Bombers. Following this series, the Generals will head over to Baton Rouge to take on a two-game series there against the Rougarou and then head back to Brazos Valley to end their long week of baseball away from home on Saturday.
