Previous: Looper played two seasons at Alvin Community College. He went 4-4 with a save and a 4.00 earned run average in 62.1 innings as a freshman. He helped the team to the Region 14 tournament and played in the Texas/New Mexico All-Star game. As a sophomore he was the primary closer on the team and finished with a 5-3 record, seven saves and a 2.02 ERA in 36.1 innings. He earned a win and a save in the Region 14 tournament where the team finished as the runner-up. He played summer ball for the Victoria Generals making 11 appearances. He pitched 26.1 innings and finished with a 2-0 record, one save and a 2.39 ERA.

High School: Looper was a four year starter at Wharton High School. In 2007, he was District and County Newcomer of the Year, Second Team All-Victoria and Honorable Mention All-State as a pitcher. His final three years he was voted First Team All-District, All-County, and All-Victoria. He played in the Houston Area Coaches Association all star game and played summer ball for the Columbia Angels.
