Biography:
June 28, 2012 - The Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League have announced the addition of catcher Andrew Stumph from Texas State University to the current roster.
Stumph, a native of Katy, Texas, just completed his junior year at Texas State where he hit .253 on the season. He added 10 doubles, three home runs, 28 RBIs, and 19 runs scored as the Bobcats everyday catcher.
The Generals were left with a void to fill at the catching position after signee M.P. Cokinos from St. Mary’s University was drafted and signed with the Houston Astros.
Stumph is no stranger to the TCL, having played for the Texas Tomcats back in 2010.
“Andrew was a quality player back when he played for the Tomcats a few years ago, and he’s only gotten better,” commented Blake Koch, Victoria’s general manager. “He’s really good defensively and can add some pop in the middle of our lineup as well.”
Stumph had been nursing a partial torn ligament in his left thumb from an injury he sustained at Texas State in the spring, but has now been cleared to play.
In 2011, Stumph earned All-Southland Conference Second Team honors and was named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list. He finished the season with a .307 batting average, five home runs, 43 RBIs, and 35 runs scored. |
