July 1. 2021 – Victoria Generals take a 6-3 victory in the second game of the two-game series against the Amarillo Sod Squad before hitting the road to Baton Rouge.
The Generals scored their first run in the 2nd inning when Cameron Gibbons grounds out to third and brings in Sam Benjamin. Gibbons comes up in the 4th inning and sends a ground ball to center field that allows Benjamin to score. The Generals took the lead when a three-run homer was hit by Benjamin that brought in Bryce Sitka and Adam Becker. The sixth and final run of the night was earned by a ground out to first base by Gibbons then Manning was able to score.
Brennan Berdon was the starter for the Sod Squad and went two innings with an unearned run and recorded a strikeout. Brandon Gomez came in relief for Berdon and received the loss after giving up the lead in the fifth. Gomez went three and two thirds with four earned runs and five strikeouts. Steven Ordorica and Creed Watkins came out of the bullpen for the Sod Squad. Combined Ordorica and Watkins went two and a third innings giving up one earned run and recording a strikeout.
The Sod Squad started off with a double on a fly ball to center field by Karl Koerper then CJ Horn came in for a run. Enrique Porchas came up in the 2nd inning for a solo home run. In the 4th inning Jordan Ku hit a solo homer which was the final run. The Sod Squads bats were quiet for the rest of the night.
Generals’ starter Reece Easterling received the win tonight after going five innings only giving up three earned runs with six strikeouts. In relief, Chris Kean, Chris Foster, and Alec Cruz came out of the bullpen. All three relievers did not give up another run. Kean went one inning with three strikeouts. Foster went one inning as well recording a strikeout. Cruz went two innings not giving up a run and started a double play in the eighth to prevent the Sod Squad from scoring.
The Generals return to Riverside Stadium on Friday July 9th with First Responder’s Night with all First Responders and their families admitted FREE presented by DeTar Healthcare System. Saturday will be Strike Out Cancer Night presented by Citizens Medical Center and Sunday will be Bark at the Park presented by Northside Ranch, Pet and Garden Center.
