Victoria Generals Fights Back In Loss To Amarillo Sod Squad

Despite a 5-run deficit in the fourth inning, the Generals almost came all the way back, eventually falling 6-5 to Amarillo Sod Squad on Saturday. The Generals put up four runs in the failed comeback. Travis Faix, Adam Becker and Steven Rivas came through with RBIs to lead the rally.

The Generals couldn't keep up with Amarillo Sod Squad early in the game. Amarillo Sod Squad scored on a single by CJ Horn and a sacrifice fly by Karl Koerper in the first inning.

Amarillo Sod Squad scored four runs in the fourth inning. Cameron Mahaffy, Thomas Green and Enrique Porchas each drove in runs during the inning.

The Generals would pull within a run in the ninth on a two run shot from Steven Rivas, his ninth on the summer, running the score to 6-5. Samual Benjamin would come on to pinch hit, but would come up short making the final out of the game.

Brennan Berdon earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for Amarillo Sod Squad. The righthander surrendered three runs on five hits over four and a third innings, striking out four. Steven Ordorica, Marco Rios, and Jose Suero all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Ordorica recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Amarillo Sod Squad.

Chris Foster took the loss for the Generals. The righthander lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out two.

The Generals return home to Riverside Stadium to open up a two-game home stand, taking on the Amarillo Sod Squad on Wednesday. Gates open up at 6pm with first pitch scheduled for 7:05.
