Generals Drop Doubleheader to Flying Chanclas

Flying Chanclas Sweep Doubleheader

June 4. 2021 –  The Generals fall to the Chanclas in a pitcher’s duel in game one that went extra innings as either teams could build any momentum as the game would go down to the wire. Game two would again start out as another pitching battle as both teams would struggle at the plate. The Chanclas would take advantage of walks and would blow the game open on relief pitching as the Generals would fall to the Chanclas in game two.

Game one of the double header would be a pitcher’s duel as neither team could get anything done offensively. The Flying Chanclas would score early with a RBI single from Zac Voolitich that would score Rody Barker who walked earlier in the inning and would take a 1-0 lead in the game

The Generals would get things started in the top of the 4th as Steven Rivas would reach first on an error by the pitcher. Austin Ochoa would single to left as the Generals would have runners at first and second with no outs. Ethan Bedgood would lay down a bunt but a great play at 3rd would get Rivas on a close play. Cristian Cienfuegos would single to center that would score Ochoa and the Generals would even the score at 1-1.

The game would remain scoreless in regulation (7 innings) as the Generals would fail to score in the top of the 8th. The Flying Chanclas would benefit on a wild pitch from reliever Kamron Snodgrass moving the runner to 3rd base with no outs. The Generals would intentionally walk the next two Chanclas to make it a force at any base. Snodgrass would eventually walk the next batter to walk in a run as the Chanclas would win 2-1.

Game two of the doubleheader would start out the same as game one as the Chanclas would scratch across a run in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead on the Generals. The Generals would threaten in the 4th inning and load up the bases, but would fail to score in the inning. The Chanclas would score a pair of runs in the bottom of the 4th to run the score to 3-0.

The Chanclas would score four runs in the 5th as Generals pitching would struggle to find the zone and the Chanclas would get their bats going with three consecutive singles to take a 7-0 lead heading to the 6th inning.

Generals would finally mount a charge in the 6th when Chase Sanguinetti would crush one for his first home run of the season to deep right to get the inning started. Hayden Johnson would reach on an error and three consecutive hits by the Generals would pull the Generals close at 7-3. The Chanclas would tack on another run in the bottom of the inning to run the final score to 8-3.

The Generals were scheduled to travel to Baton Rouge tomorrow to begin a two-game series that has been postponed. The Baton Rouge area has been inundated with rain the past few days and the forecast is for rain all weekend in the area. The series has been postponed until July 4th and 5th making that a four-game series as the Generals were already scheduled to travel to Baton Rouge on July 2nd.

The Generals next game will be Tuesday as they make their first trip to Brazos Valley to take on the Bombers in a single game on Tuesday June 8th before returning home to begin a four-game home stand the following day.
