Generals Return Michael Williams to their 2020 Squad
April 22, 2020 – When the Generals take the field this Summer, championship experience will be on their side with the addition of Michael Williams. Williams played a big part in the Generals 2018 season where the Generals went on to win the 2018 Texas Collegiate League championship. Williams, a senior at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, will earn another year of eligibility with the cancellation of their 2020 season due to the COVID-19 virus, making him eligible for a Texas Collegiate League roster.
“We look forward to having Michael back in a Generals uniform again and expect his leadership to play a big part in the Generals success this Summer,” commented Mike Yokum, Vice President/General Manager. “Michael had an outstanding sophomore season with the Generals in 2018 and would definitely be an asset with his leadership and on-field experience in helping develop our younger players.”
In 2018, Williams appeared in a team high 47 games, hit .343 with a team high 61 hits, six doubles, eight triples (franchise record), 27 RBI's, 26 walks and 22 stolen bases. Williams was a TCL All-Star selection and an All-TCL first team selection at outfield. Before the 2020 season was cut short at A&M Corpus Christi, Williams appeared in 17 games, hit .246 with two doubles, a home run, three walks and a pair of stolen bases.
Last Summer (2019), Williams played his Summer ball with the Savannah Bananas of the Coastal Plains League in Georgia. Williams appeared in 45 games, hitting .353 with five doubles, three triples, 23 RBI's, 16 walks and 21 stolen bases.
