Generals Land Four from Southeastern Louisiana University

Generals Land Four from Southeastern Louisiana University

January 22, 2020 – With the 2020 Texas Collegiate League season a little more than four months away, the Victoria Generals begin announcing their recent signings as they battle for a championship in the Texas Collegiate League.  This week, the Generals have announced the addition of four players from Southeastern Louisiana University of the Southland Conference.  Infielder Trevor Rugg, catcher/infielder Bryce Grizzaffi, and pitchers Dalton Aspholm and Matt Flowers will take the field for the Generals as they open their 12th season in the Texas Collegiate League.

"It is great to rekindle our relationship with Southeastern Louisiana in a big way with landing these solid players," commented Mike Yokum, Generals Vice President and General Manager. "It has been over five seasons since we have worked with Southeastern Louisiana and with their recent success within the Southland Conference, we are excited to partner again with their coaching staff."

Infielder Trevor Rugg, a junior from West Monroe, LA, will compete at first base for the Generals. Rugg transferred from Paris Junior College where he finished up a solid sophomore season appearing in 46 games, hitting .317 with 44 hits, eight doubles, four triples, seven home runs, scoring 30 runs, 27 runs batted in, with 27 walks, 10 stolen bases and compiled an on-base percentage of .429.

Catcher/infielder Bryce Grizzaffi, a freshman from Morgan City, LA, will look to split time at catcher and infield for the Generals this season. The Central Catholic High School standout committed to Southeastern Louisiana University as a junior and was highly ranked by Perfect Game, ranked the 4th best catcher out of Louisiana's 2019 senior class. Grizzaffi was a two-time All-State and three-time All-District honoree in baseball and was the District MVP as a senior.

Right-handed pitcher Dalton Aspholm, a freshman from Baton Rouge, LA, will look to bolster the Generals pitching staff as he takes the mound for the Generals.  Aspholm was a standout at Central high School and helped to lead his team to back-to-back state titles his sophomore and junior seasons. Aspholm was ranked the 12th best right-handed pitcher in the state of Louisiana's 2019 senior class by Perfect Game.

Right-handed pitcher Matt Flowers, a freshman from Fulshear, TX, will take the mound this summer for the Generals.  Flowers was a standout two-way player for Cinco Ranch High school and was ranked the 18th best at third base in the state of Texas by Perfect Game. Flowers also earned All-District honors as a relief pitcher, throwing 13.1 innings with 20 strike outs and an earned run average of 1.58 his senior season.

The Victoria Generals will play 48 games with 24 of the games being played here in Victoria at Riverside Stadium. The Generals will begin the 2020 season on May 28th as they hit the road against the Texarkana Twins. The Generals home opener will be on Sunday, May 31st as the defending TCL Champion Brazos Valley Bombers come to town.
