Generals Announce Post-Season Award Selections
September 6, 2019 – The TCL post-season awards were announced today and the Generals had four players selected to the All-TCL First Team. Making the team were: Ryan Flores (first base), Coby Potvin (outfield), Payton Robertson (short stop) and Deryk Serbantez (starting pitcher).
Ryan Flores (University of the Incarnate Word) had an awesome season for the Generals hitting .305 with 11 doubles, a triple, five home runs, 43 runs batted in, scoring 24 runs, nine walks and three stolen bases. Flores was also selected at mid-season as a TCL All-Star taking home both the All-Star MVP as well as Home Run Derby Champion.
Coby Potvin (University of Central Arkansas) returned for his second season with the Generals (played in 2017). Potvin started the season hot hitting over.500 for the first three weeks of the season and lead the TCL at the All-star break with a .375 batting average. Potvin finished the season hitting .347 (2nd in TCL) with seven doubles, three triples, a home run, 24 runs batted in, 34 runs scored, 21 walks and 12 stolen bases. Potvin was also a TCL All-Star selection at the outfield position.
Payton Robertson (University of Louisiana-Shreveport) had an outstanding season both offensively and defensively playing in 49 of the 52 games played by the Generals. Robertson lead the team with 172 at-bats on the season hitting .272 with 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 43 runs batted in, 45 runs scored, 37 walks and 44 stolen bases. Robertson set the TCL record for stolen bases in a season (44) breaking the make set by Thomas Jeffries (41) last season playing for the Generals. Robertson was also selected to as a TCL All-Star at mid-season.
Deryk Serbantez (Wharton Junior College) had an incredible season for the Generals as a two-way player as pitcher and designated hitter. Serbantez was selected to the All-TCL Team as a starting pitcher appearing in nine games (42.2 innings) with 54 strike outs, allowing 27 hits, 10 earned runs and an earned run average of 2.10 on the season. Serbantez also got it done on the offensive side appearing in 16 games, hit .325 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, 12 runs batted in, 13 runs scored and eight walks. Serbantez was also a mid-season TCL All-Star selection as a starting pitcher. Serbantez has transferred to the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley.
The Victoria Generals will play 48 games in 2020 with 24 of the games being played here in Victoria at Riverside Stadium.
