Generals Eclipse $200,000 Mark in Giving Back as Strike Out Cancer Jersey Auction Lands $15,000
July 28, 2019 – The Generals took down the Baton Rouge Rougarou but that was only the first victory on the night for the Generals. Following the game, the Generals held their annual Strike Out Cancer event and jersey auction that raised a record $15,000 for the fight against Cancer. Last night’s total eclipsed the previous record total of $12,345 raised in 2018. 100% of the money raised from this auction will go to the fight against Cancer.
Several notable jersey auction totals were Alex Canul (#23), Deryk Serbantez (#43) and Payton Robertson (#7) all going for $550 each. Once again, bullpen catcher Tuffy Dornburg’s jersey was the highest bid on the night netting $680 for the cause.
This was the sixth season that the Generals have held the Strike Out Cancer event with the jersey auction bringing in $72,670 for the fight against Cancer over that six year period. The Generals also partnered with several sponsors to make this possible. Citizens Medical Center was the jersey sponsor and Victoria Area Nurse Practitioners turned the night into a Free Ticket Night for our fans. The Generals would like to thank these two sponsors for making this event a huge success.
Saturday was the final jersey auction of the season. Earlier in the month, Purple Out the Park jersey auction raised a record $13,500 for the Alzheimer’s Association. Our first auction in June saw our Warriors Weekend jerseys smashed the previous record of $16,425 by bringing in a whopping $27,450 for the Warriors Weekend organization. Our final jersey auction total for the 2019 season wrapped up at $55,950 smashing our previous record total of $36,925 raised in 2018.
The Generals have completed 19 jersey auctions over a six year period and have raised $211,870 for these three causes. 100% of all this total has been given to these organizations. The Generals would like to thank our fans and sponsors for the generosity in making these events a huge success.
