Player Jersey Auction for Purple Out the Park Lands $13,500 for Alzheimer’s Association
July 7, 2019 – The Generals concluded a two-game series by sweeping the Baton Rouge Rougarou but that was only the first victory on the night for the Generals. Following the game, the Generals held their annual Purple Out the Park event and jersey auction that raised a record $13,500 for the fight against Alzheimer’s. Last night’s total eclipsed the previous record total of $11,300 raised in 2016. 100% of the money raised from this auction will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Auctioneer Justin Anderle began the bids at $150 on the first jersey of the night, starting pitcher Deryk Serbantez, as the bids soared to $900 to set the tone for the auction. Bullpen catcher Tuffy Dornburg’s jersey netted the highest bid on the night as a bidding war broke out bringing in $1,250 for the cause.
This was the fifth season that the Generals have partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association with the jersey auction bringing in $35,425 for the Alzheimer’s Association over that five year period. The Generals also partnered with several sponsors to make this possible. Comfort Keepers, Crossroads Machine and Fab, and Crossroads Imaging and Intervention Radiology all came together to make the night happen, including a Free Ticket Night for everyone.
Saturday was the second jersey auction of the season. Earlier in the month, our Warriors Weekend jerseys smashed the previous record of $16,425 by bringing in a whopping $27,450 for the Warriors Weekend organization. Our total thus far for the 2019 season is $40,950 with one jersey auction to go.
On Saturday, July 27th, the Generals will have their final jersey auction of the season. The Generals will host Strike Out Cancer Night at the Park presented by Citizens Medical Center. All money raised will go to the fight against cancer. It will also be a Free Ticket Night thanks to the Victoria Area Nurse Practitioners.
The Generals have completed 18 jersey auctions over a six year period and have raised $196,870 for these three organizations. The Generals would like to thank our fans and sponsors for the generosity in making these events a huge success.
