Victoria, TX – The Victoria Generals were able to complete a series sweep over the Baton Rouge Rougarou on Saturday night, defeating them 6-1 on “Purple Out the Park” night at Riverside Stadium.
The Generals opened up the scoring quickly, when the leadoff hitter Tanner Roach hit a solo homerun to put the Generals up 1-0 in the first inning. Coby Potvin would record an RBI double in the third inning, increasing the lead to 2-0. In the fifth inning, the Rougarou recorded two errors on one play, which scored two runs for the Generals to make the score 4-0. Cole Taylor added an RBI double in the fifth inning scoring one run, increasing the Generals lead to 5-0. Tanner Roach recorded an RBI double in the 8th inning scoring one run, making the lead 6-0. The only scoring of the night for the Rougarou came in the 9th inning, as they were able to cross one run.
Deryk Serbantez started the game off for the Generals and recorded the win, pitching five complete innings, giving up two hits, walking one batter, and striking out five. Ty Abraham came in to relieve Serbantez on the mound, pitching three complete innings, giving up no hits, walking three batters, and striking out five. Jack Engelmann came in and completed the save for the Generals, pitching one complete inning, giving up one hit and striking out two. Zach Fordham started the game off for the Rougarou, pitching three complete innings and eventually recorded the loss for his team.
Tanner Roach and Zac Vooleitch lead the Generals on the offensive side. Roach recorded three hits and one RBI, including a solo homerun to begin the game, while Vooleitch recorded three hits as well. Payton Robertson and Cole Taylor each recorded one hit, with Taylor adding one RBI on the night in his first night as a General. Brennan Lambert, Lukas Polanco, and Cameron Crawford were responsible for the three hits the Rougarou recorded on the night.
The Generals will be back in action on Sunday, July 7th to begin a series with the Texarkana Twins. The game on July 7th will be “Diamonds on the Diamond” night presented by Deutsch & Deutsch. The game on July 8th will be a free ticket night presented by TDECU. The Generals will begin a series with the first place Brazos Valley Bombers on July 11th.
