Generals Steal Game One from Texarkana Twins

June 2, 2019 – The Victoria Generals stole the lead late in the game in a 10-6 victory over the Texarkana Twins on Sunday night. The game was tied at six when the Victoria Generals came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning. The lead would remain with the Generals for good after the seventh inning thanks to a heads up base running play by Ian Groves pushing the score to 7-6.

 

The Texarkana Twins scored four runs in the first inning, but the Victoria Generals still managed to pull out the victory. Tom Lichty, Blake Shannon, Steven Bonuz, and Brian Hamilton each drove in runs during the inning.

 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Victoria Generals tied things up at five when Peyton Robertson had a sacrifice fly. The Generals managed to tally three runs in the eighth inning. The Generals offense was led by Jordan Johnson, Ian Groves, and Austin Trace who each had RBI’s in that eighth inning.

 

Deryk Serbantez was the winning pitcher for the Victoria Generals. He surrendered two runs on three hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out ten batters. Jack Engelmann and Ty Abraham would each would work a perfect eighth and ninth innings respesctively.

 

Brian Hamilton took the loss for the Texarkana Twins going three innings and allowing two runs on four hits and striking out two.

 

The Generals totaled 13 hits in the ball game today. Bennett Laurence, Jordan Johnson, Ian Groves and Jose Diaz all managed multiple hits for the Generals. Laurence went three for five at the plate to lead the Generals in hits. The Generals also hit one homerun in the game on a moonshot by Jordan Johnson in the fourth inning. The Generals also managed to play a clean baseball game, not committing a single error in the field.

 

The Generals will be back in action on Monday, June 3rd as they wrap up their series with the Texarkana Twins and look to remain unbeaten on the summer.
