Laurence Leads Generals to Victory with Five Hit Game
Bennett Laurence gave Baton Rouge Rougarou fits, as he bagged five hits in Victoria Generals 17-13 victory on Friday. Laurence singled in the second, singled in the fourth, doubled in the sixth, doubled in the eighth, and singled in the ninth.
There was plenty of action on the base path as Victoria Generals collected 22 hits on the night while the Rougarou finished the night with ten.
Victoria Generals opened up scoring in the first inning, when Cortlynn Ramirez induced Jordan Johnson to hit into a fielder's choice, scoring the first run of the game.
Victoria Generals took the lead for good with three runs in the fifth inning. In the fifth Johnson singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run and Zach Limas singled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.
Victoria Generals scored six runs in the sixth inning. Jose Diaz, Tanner Roach, Payton Robertson, Johnson, and Limas each had RBIs in the frame.
Baton Rouge Rougarou scored three runs in the ninth inning. Brayden Morrow, Brennan Lambert, and Cameron Crawford each had RBIs in the big inning.
Hamilkar Medina was credited with the victory for Victoria Generals. He lasted one and one-third innings, allowing zero hits and one run. A number of pitchers entered the game as relief, with Jake Zatopek, Jaydan Martinez, Diaz, and Seth Campbell all securing outs and ultimately the victory.
Ramirez took the loss for Baton Rouge Rougarou. He went five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking one.
Alex Canul started the game for Victoria Generals. He lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out three
Victoria Generals racked up 22 hits in the game. Laurence, Caleb Maly, Breck Potvin, Johnson, Roach, Limas, and Diaz all had multiple hits for Victoria Generals. Laurence led Victoria Generals with five hits in six at bats. Victoria Generals was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
