Victoria, TX –The Victoria Generals were crowned 2018 TCL champions, defeating the Acadiana Cane Cutters 7-4 at Riverside Stadium in a decisive game 3. It is the second TCL championship in the Generals history, the first since 2010.
The win did not come easy however, as the Cane Cutters quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and held that all the way until the 5th inning. The Generals added 3 in the bottom of the 5th, thanks to a runner being walked in, a runner scoring by a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly by Chase Evans.
The Generals then took the lead in the 6th thanks to a RBI triple by Luis Vargas, followed by a two-run homerun by Chase Evans. Luis Vargas would hit an RBI double in the 7th, and the Generals would eventually hold on to the 7-4 lead.
Alex Canul started the night for the Generals, going 2.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs, walking 1 and striking out 2. Luke Taggart came in for relief, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 earned runs, while walking none and striking out 6. Garrett Alexander finished things off for the Generals, pitching 3 innings, giving up 1 hit and no earned runs, while walking 2 and striking out 6.
The Generals would like to thank everyone who supported them throughout the season. Without support from fans, host families, sponsors, and many more, this all wouldn’t be possible. Thank you for a great year! Go Generals!
