Victoria, TX – Tonight the Victoria Generals took on the Texarkana Twins in the Texas Collegiate League semi-final game. The Generals won by a score of 5 to 3. On the other side of the bracket the Acadiana Cane Cutters took down the Brazos Valley Bombers in the final inning. The Generals will travel to Acadiana for the first game of the championship tomorrow at 7:05 PM.
Pedro Garcia (MidAmerican Nazarene) started the night off on the mound for the Generals. Garcia allowed two runs on 5 hits in his 7 and two thirds innings pitched. Garcia struck out 13 batters while only walking one. Recently acquired pitched Luke Taggart (Incarnate Word) came in to close the game out. Taggart allowed one run on one hit, and he struck out two batters.
Center fielder, Michael Williams (Paris JC), went one for two at the plate with an inside the park home run. He also drew a walk while at bat. Marshal Skinner (Northwestern State) was two for four on the night, and hit a solo home run early on in the game. Reese Johnson (Sam Houston State), Thomas Jeffries (Texas A&M–Corpus Christi), and Chase Evans (Tyler JC) all came around to score for the Generals.
The Victoria Generals will have home field advantage throughout the championship series versus the Cane Cutters. The first game will be tomorrow, August 9th, in Acadiana before the series will return to Victoria for game two the following day. If a third game is necessary it will be held at Riverside Stadium.
