Victoria, TX –The Victoria Generals completed the sweep of the Texas Marshals on strike out cancer night sponsored by Citizens Medical Center, defeating them 11-5.
The victory improves the second place Generals to 8-6 on the season, while the Marshals fall to 2-11 with the loss. The Generals have won 5 of their last 6 games.
The Generals scoring began when Zach Howard hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning, giving the Generals a 1-0 lead. However, the Marshals would tie the game in the top of the fourth with a Zavier Moore solo home run, and would eventually score another run, taking a 2-1 lead.
The highlight of the night however was the Generals scoring eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving them an 11-3 lead, which eventually lead to the 11-5 victory.
Thomas Jefferies played a huge role in the Generals victory, recording two hits and four RBI’s, including a home run. Zach Howard also played well for the Generals, recording three hits and three RBI’s, including a home run also.
Generals starting pitcher Cole Wesneski went 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out eight. Michael Slaten, Matthew Swick, Hagan Hartman, and Evan Maize all came in for relief for the Generals.
The Generals will be off Sunday and Monday, before heading to Bryan, Texas on Tuesday to begin a four-game series with the first place Brazos Valley Bombers. The Generals will be back at home on Thursday and Friday taking on the Bombers.
