Generals Win Tonight to Split the Series at the Bombers
June 7, 2018 –The Victoria Generals put an end to the streaking Bombers who had won nine straight games coming into tonight with a 4-3 victory. Solid pitching would be the theme of the game got both sides as hits were hard to come by.
The Bombers would get thing stated in the first inning taking advantage of a pair of walks and an error to take a one run lead heading into the second. The Generals would get things going in the second as Luis Olivier would walk, Zach Howard would reach first on a dropped third strike as the Generals would have runners on first and third with one out. O’Neal Lochridge would ground out to second that would score Olivier to even the score at 1-1.
Bombers starting pitcher Chandler Jozwiak would be replaced after five innings allowing just two Generals hits while striking out eight. Jaden Simmons would come on in relief and would allow a solo home run by Luis Olivier, his league leading third on the season as the Generals would score two runs in the inning to go up 3-1. Generals starting pitcher Pedro Garcia would pitch 5.3 strong innings allowing only three hits while striking out 10 Bombers but would run into a little trouble in the sixth inning allowing two runs. Tyler Crouch would come in to relieve Garcia as the game would be tied at 3-3 heading into the seventh.
Top of the eight, Generals would get it going with a walk and an error as pinch hitter Jake Miller would come in and single to left scoring Michael Slaten as the Generals would take a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth. Matthew Swick would come in and pitch a scoreless eighth and ninth as the Generals would take the win by a score of 4-3. Generals pitching would come up big as they would strike out 13 bombers on the night and allow just five hits.
Generals open up a two-game series with the Texas Marshals at Riverside Stadium tomorrow night with Free Ticket Friday presented by Victoria Dodge. Gates open at 6 pm with plenty of great giveaways!! Saturday night will be Strike Out Cancer Night presented by Citizens Medical Center as the Generals players and coaching staff will be wearing pink jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game with 100% of the proceeds going to the fight against cancer.
