Generals Take Season Opener from Texarkana Twins 18-3
Texarkana, TX- The Generals loaded the bus for their longest trip in franchise history as they pay a visit to take on the Texarkana Twins as they open their inaugural season tonight. The Twins had a nice showing with a sold out crowd as the city of Texarkana got their first taste of Texas Collegiate League Action.
Both teams hit the field with limited rosters as many Division I players were wrapped up in tournament play. The Generals would threaten in the first inning with several base runners but were not able to take advantage of control problems from starting pitcher Stanton Lohrengel Generals starting pitcher Jordan Hackett, from Our Lady of the Lake University, would pick up where he left off this season with a strong start and would hold the Twins scoreless through the first two innings. The Generals would get on the board with a run in the second and would take a 1-0 lead through two innings.
Hackett would have a bit of a tough inning in the bottom of the third as the Twins would score three runs and take a 3-1 lead on the Generals. The Generals would battle back with timely hitting in the 4th to take back the lead 4-3 as they headed to the 5th inning.
The Generals would blow the game open in late innings and would pick up the win 18-3. Kyle Rogers would enter the game in the 6th and would toss four scoreless innings for the save and Hackett would pick up his first win as a General.
The Generals will return home on Sunday as they will host the Texas Marshals in their home opener as they open their 9th season in the Texas Collegiate League. Gates will open at 6:00 pm as the first 500 through the gates will receive a magnet schedule complements of Texas Farm Bureau Insurance.
Memorial Day will play host to our first Free Ticket Night of the season as TISD Internet Service has bought out the stadium allowing everyone to enjoy the 2017 Generals free of charge. Come out early and show your support for the Generals with early bird specials at the ballpark.
