Generals Bolster Roster with Local Talent

May 3, 2017 – With the 2017 Texas Collegiate League season beginning later this month, the Victoria Generals continue to build their roster as they take the field for their ninth season. This week, the Generals have announced the addition of two players from area high schools. Pitcher Michael Brawner, a 2015 graduate from St. Joseph High School and Zac Leigh, a 2016 Victoria East High School graduate will join the Generals this Summer.

Michael Brawner, a left-handed pitcher, will return for his second season with the Generals. Brawner, a red-shirt freshman at Louisiana State University-Eunice has appeared in 10 games (through 04/29/17) 39.2 innings, allowing 42 hits, 17 earned runs with 46 strikeouts and 16 walks. Brawner's current record is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.86 on the season. For the Generals in 2016, Brawner appeared in 14 games (nine starts) 54 innings, 41 hits, 16 earned runs with 48 strikeouts and 39 walks. Brawner was second on the team in wins with a record of 6-2 with an ERA of 2.66.

"We are excited to have Michael back with a full season under his belt and with him putting up solid numbers at LSU-Eunice," commented Mike Yokum, Generals Vice President and General Manager. "Brawner struggled a bit with control last Summer but looks as though he has had great command of his pitches this Spring."

Zac Leigh, a right-handed pitcher from Texas State, will join the Generals this Summer off a successful senior season at Victoria East High School. Leigh has appeared in 11 games for Texas State in relief with 11.1 innings of work, allowing 11 hits, five earned runs and a 3.97 ERA. Leigh was a 5A All-State Second Team Selection his senior season at Victoria East High School.

"Zac is a solid addition to our pitching staff with the ability to be a guy that can come into any situation as well as options as a starting pitcher for us this Summer," commented Yokum. "The coaching staff at Texas State have had nothing but great things to say about Zac's baseball savvy and potential."

The Generals will begin their season on May 26th as they travel to Texarkana to take on the Twins before returning to Victoria for their home opener on Sunday, May 28th at Riverside Stadium at 7:05 pm.
