Generals Land Four Players from Sam Houston

April 17, 2017 – With the 2017 Texas Collegiate League season a little more than a month away, the Victoria Generals continue to build their roster as they look for a successful 2017 season. This week, the Generals have announced the addition of four players from Sam Houston State University.  Outfielder Hunter Hearn will return for his second season, along with infielder Riley McKnight and pitchers Gabriel Sequeira and Dominic Robinson.

Hunter Hearn, a right handed sophomore , is in his second season at Sam Houston State. As a freshman, Hearn appeared in 47 games (39 starts) for Sam Houston with a .265 batting average with four doubles, two triples and a pair of home runs. For the Generals in 2016, Hearn appeared in 23 games, hit .275 with 22 hits, seven doubles, 10 RBI's and 14 walks. Hearn is currently the team leader this season in hitting with a .366 batting average and 11 extra base hits and an on-base percentage of .440.

"The return of Hearn really strengthens the middle of our lineup and really gives us plenty of options defensively as Hearn can play multiple positions," commented Mike Yokum, Generals Vice President and General Manager. "Hearn joined us midway through the season last year and had an outstanding second half of the season and we are excited for his return."

Riley McKnight, a sophomore, is also in his second season at Sam Houston State. McKnight appeared in 56 games (31 starts) as a freshman while compiling a .298 batting average with a pair of doubles and 15 RBI's. McKnight used his speed effectively with 11 stolen bases in 12 attempts and was third in the conference in bunts with nine on the season. McKnight was also clutch when it mattered in 2016, hitting .347 in conference games which was second on the team.

Gabriel Sequeira, a freshman left-handed pitcher, will look to work from the bullpen for the Generals this Summer. Sequeira has appeared in 8 games this season (9.1 innings) with a 4.82 ERA. Prior to joining the BearKats this season, Sequeira was a standout lefty from Cypress Creek High School in the Houston area. Sequeira was named First-Team All-District, posting a 1.86 ERA his senior season at Cypress Creek.

Dominic Robinson, a freshman left-handed pitcher, has appeared in nine games for Sam Houston throwing 16.2 innings thus far with a 3.78 ERA with 17 strikeouts while only walking one batter this season. Robinson had an outstanding junior season compiling a 1.18 ERA and followed that up with a 1.08 ERA his senior season. Robinson was  named "Pitcher of the Year" for the Houston Area his senior season at Tomball Memorial High School.

"Our connection with Sam Houston State had really developed over the past few season as we work with their coaching staff to get some of their best players," commented Yokum. "Their coaching staff continued to add players for the Generals last season and really stepped with these four to start this season."
