The 2016 Victoria Generals wrapped up their season this past week with a strong second half (17-13) to end the season at 28-28 (third in the TCL). While the Generals came up a bit short of their goal of TCL Champs, there was plenty of great things for the Generals to hang their hats on. 2016 marked the third season that the Generals have held jersey auctions to benefit organizations within our community. In 2014, the Generals raised $18,500 for Warrior's Weekend and Guardians of the Ribbon. New for 2015, the Generals added a purple jersey to benefit the Alzheimer's Association and raised $34,850 with the three jersey auctions.
Our first auction of the season was held on June 17th to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. Our sponsor of the event, Senior Helpers, reached out to several other businesses in the community to help cover the cost of the jerseys. Twin Pines and Citizens medical Center stepped up to make this event happen. The event was a success bringing in $11,346 for the Alzheimer's Association.
Our second jersey auction was held on July 16th as the players and coaches wore these jerseys for two nights. The patriotic American flag jerseys were auctioned off to benefit Warrior's Weekend thanks to our jersey sponsor Jaks Financial. The top jersey for the evening came from #41 Riley Cooper jersey that brought in $1,025. The event brought in $10,450 for the Warrior's Weekend Organization and showed how well our community supports our troops! Over the past three seasons, the Warrior's jerseys have brought in $38,400 for our warriors!
Our final jersey auction was held on August 6th as the players, coaches and special guests wore PINK jerseys to benefit the fight against cancer thanks to our jersey sponsor Citizens Medical Center. Over the past two seasons, the pink jerseys have brought in a total of $18,400 to go towards cancer awareness and the fight against cancer. We had several special guest including, Gabi Gray, sister of Generals catcher Garrett Gray. Gabi was diagnosed with a rare pediatric cancer, Ewings Sarcoma, in November of 2015. Her jersey was the top jersey going for over $1,000 to top bidder Darrell Smith from Atzenhoffer Chevrolet. After winning the bid, Darrell gave the jersey back to Gabi for her to keep! The event was a success bringing in $12,100 for the cause and bringing the three year total to $30,500 raised for the fight against cancer!
The three special nights brought in $33,896 for these three organizations and really shows how our fans support these great causes. Our three year total for all the jersey auctions totals $87,246. The Victoria Generals organization would like to thanks everyone for their generosity and look forward to seeing everyone at the ball park in 2017.
