(Victoria, Tx) The Texas Collegiate League's expansion franchise, The Victoria Generals completed an outstanding season Saturday night by defeating the Brazos Valley Bombers 5-2. The win sets their regular season mark at 30-14, and solidified their hold on the No. 1 seed in the upcoming post season tournament.
Chase Cleveland took the mound for the Generals looking for his fifth win of the summer but was knocked out of the game by a line drive to the throwing hand in the fifth inning. Trevor Lundgrin came on in relief and shut down the tough Bomber batters by throwing five shutout, no-hit innings to pick up his second win.
The Generals got on the board early when Bryson Miles lead off the bottom of the first with a single, stole second and came home on a single by Brian Nephew. Then in the second the Andrew Moore led off with a single, Kenny Jackson got on because the second baseman mishandled his grounder and Zach Briggs was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Chris Whitehead picked up another rbi with a fielder's choice grounder. Brendan McGaheran then doubled home Whitehead and Jackson. The Generals added an insurance run in the 8th when Michael Pair drew a bases loaded walk.
The first game of the league's post season tournament begins Sunday when the regular season champions, the Victoria Generals travel to Bryan to play the Bombers, the 4th seeded team. The Generals return home for game 2 and three, if needed on Monday.
