The Victoria Generals survived a late scare to snap their five-game losing streak with a 5-3 win against the East Texas Pump Jacks on Friday.
Down, 5-3, with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, East Texas (22-25) rallied with three straight singles off Lance Moszkowicz. However, the Generals reliever was able to get Frank Miller to ground out to end the game.
Caden Williams struck out five batters while giving up five hits and three earned runs over 71/3 innings to earn the win for Victoria (29-19).
Lopez led Victoria at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double. Adam Goss, Travis Jones, Jonathan Reyes and Bryce Brandl also collected multiple hits for the Generals as Victoria compiled 12 hits on the night. Brandl hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
The Generals will return home Saturday as they take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters and it will be Strike Out Cancer Night presented by Citizens Medical Center. The Generals will be sporting pink jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game with the proceeds going to the fight against cancer. Gates open at 6 pm with first pitch at 7:05.
