Late Rally Comes Up Short for Generals
May 28, 2015 – The Victoria Generals opened up their 2015 season on the road at the Acadiana Cane Cutters. Dakota Mills had a strong effort going six innings while allowing only one run , but would suffer the loss as the Generals bats would remain silent throughout most of the game.
Both teams took some time getting into a groove offensively as the game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the third as the Cane Cutters would lead off the inning with a single from Daniel Keating. A stolen base and a sacrifice bunt would move Keating to third and Leiff Clarkson would ground to third to score Keating and give the Cane Cutters a one run lead heading into the fourth inning.
Both pitchers would continue strong as they would go deep into the game. Mills would leave the game in the top of the seventh as Ryan Fant would enter the game. Fant would struggle a bit with control, allowing two walks in the inning, but would get out of the inning without allowing a run thanks to the Generals defense.
Chris Jones would replace Fant in the eighth and would get into a little trouble walking Braedon Barret with one out. Barret would advance to second with a stolen base but would be picked off trying to advance to third. Jones would allow four hits in the inning as two runs would score and the Cane Cutters would take a 3-0 lead into the 9th inning.
In the ninth, the Generals bats would finally come alive with two outs as Jonathan Reyes would hit a shot to short and Reyes would beat the throw to first. The Generals stayed hot as Jacob Spring singled to advance Reyes to third. Ryan McCranie came in to pinch hit for Dakota Phillips who doubled to right which scored Reyes and Spring making the score 3-2. Adam Goss would go down swinging to end the game .
