Bryan, TX - The Victoria Generals came up just a bit short, falling 2-1 to the Brazos Valley Bombers in the Texas Collegiate League Championship.
C.J. Pickering opened up the scoring with a two-out double in the second, plating Cedric Vallieres. Vallieres led off the inning with a single and reached second on David Paiz's sacrifice bunt before scoring.
After four shutout innings to open the game, the Bombers took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Horacio Correa picked up from where he left off last night, as he doubled in Matt Valdez, then Matt Hilston scored on a wild pitch. Those two runs would prove to be enough.
Andre Shewcraft came into the game after five innings thrown by Lawson Vassar for the Bombers. Ty Schlottmann's night would also be over going to the sixth; Kris Looper was brought in to relieve him.
Another pitching change opened the bottom of the seventh, as Armando Arevalo took over for Looper after one inning. Cannon Chadwick went in for Shewcraft with two outs in the eighth, and that would be all she wrote.
The Generals bats would go silent in the ninth, giving the Bombers their second TCL Championship Title.
The Generals staff would like to thank everyone for making this a great season and we look forward to seeing you next year!
