Kilgore, TX - Led by Alvaro Rondon at the plate and a combined great effort by pitchers Ty Schlottmann, Troy Ward, James Swan, and Jeff Chesnut, the Generals took a 3-1 win in their first game following the All Star Break.
It was a slow start for both teams, as the Generals scored the first run of the ballgame in the top of the fifth inning. Pedro Barrios crossed the plate on a single from Rondon. Barrios reached on an error, moved to second on a passed ball, and got to third on another error.
Ty Schlottmann took the start for the Generals and only tossed three innings, two days after throwing relief in the TCL All Star Game, Tuesday in Bryan.
Troy Ward entered the game in the bottom of the fourth and allowed the Pump Jacks' tying run to score in the bottom of the sixth. Joe Moroney scored on a single off the bat of Peter Miller.
Jeremy Hallonquist started the game for East Texas and only accounted for one unearned run in six and two-thirds innings of work.
Kyle Garvin replaced Hallonquist and took care of the final out of the seventh, before the Generals scored two off of him in the eighth.
Three straight singles from Brian Portelli, Cedric Vallieres, and Blake Cooper would remove Garvin from the game, bringing in John Jaeger for the Pump Jacks. Portelli scored on Tanner Hill's hit by pitch, and Vallieres scored the final run of the inning on J.B. Moss' walk, giving the Generals a 3-1 lead. Hill is a new catcher for the Generals who played in his first game tonight. Both runs would be credited to Garvin.
After four innings pitched in relief by Ward, James Swan replaced him in the bottom of the eighth for Victoria.
Rondon made it to third following a lead-off double in the ninth but was left stranded after Robbie Petty came in for Jaeger and ended the top half of the inning.
Jeff Chestnut finished things off in the ninth, replacing Swan and picked up the save. Troy ward will be credited with the win.
With the win tonight and the loss by the Bombers, the Generals take over the best record in the TLC for the season with a record of 26-9.
The Generals will wrap up the series with East Texas tomorrow night before returning home for Faith and Family Night on Saturday. Gates open at 5:30 for a pregame concert.
