Victoria TX - The Acadiana Cane Cutters came to Victoria to take on the Victoria Generals for a double header Friday evening. The record between these two teams heading in to Friday was 1-1.
The Cane Cutters got things started with a run in the top of the first inning with the RBI coming from Hunter Wood.
In the bottom of the first inning, a quick pitching change was made. Jesse Stallings took over pitching duties from Russell Reynolds. Reynolds gave up one hit and one walk in his time at the mound.
Justin Pacchioli found pay dirt with his second at bat of the game when he hit a drive in to right field and it looked like a routine out when the center fielder Connor Barron and right fielder James Ziegler collided with each other in the outfield. The defensive slip brought in three runs for the Generals and gave Pacchioli his 2nd home run of the season.
In the 6th inning, Scott Szush came in to pitch for Jesse Stallings. Stallings gave up three runs on six hits and had one strike out in his campaign at bat.
Bryce Welborn started for the Generals and almost completed the game, but was taken out after he allowed a single that brought in two runs to tie the game in the 7th. Welborn allowed three runs on six hits and struck out two batters during his time pitching. He was replaced by Troy Ward.
Just when things looked bleak for the Cane Cutters, Trent Giambrone came up to bat. He hit a double RBI single in the bottom of the 7th with two outs facing him to tie the game.
In the 9th inning Scott Szush was taken out in favor of Colton Lee. Szush allowed three hits and no runs in his time at the mound.
The scoreboard would stay stagnant until the top of the 10th inning when Trent Giambrone had yet another big play, crossing home plate to give the Cane Cutters a one run lead.
Another pitching change was made by Acadiana heading in to the bottom of the 10th inning, going with Scott Ashford in favor of Colton Lee. Lee allowed zero runs and recorded one strikeout. The Generals were finally able to finish off the Cane Cutters in the 10th inning when Keith Funk sent Blake Cooper home on an RBI, then crossed home plate himself on a wild pitch. The Generals would take game one by a score of 5-4.
Scott Ashford was handed a loss and a blown save, and Troy Ward hung on for the win. Game one finished off with a bang, and game two wouldnt disappoint either.
Generals played two games tonight, not only did they win but they had two walk off wins. Some Generals stood out offensively for the second game tonight; Pedro Barrios went 2 for 4 with an RBI and made some outstanding defensive plays. Justin Pacchioli went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored, and a walk off homerun to win the game.
James Swan started the top of the 1st recording his first two strikeouts of the night as the Cane Cutters went 1, 2, 3, in the inning. The Generals came into the bottom of the 1st inning and Pedro Barrios hit an RBI single to score Justin Pacchioli 1-0 Generals.
Swan and the Generals moved on to the 2nd inning where he would record his third strikeout of the night and the inning would end on a barehanded grab and throw 5-3 from Pedro Barrios. Nothing for the Generals offense in the bottom of the 2nd, and on to the top of the 3rd where the Cane Cutters would drive in 2 runs and score 1 from a double steal where a runner stole from 3rd base 3-1. Swan would still record two more strikeouts in the inning.
A notable stat in the bottom of the 5th inning; Alvaro Rondon stole his 6th base of the night including the first game of the doubleheader.
The Generals tacked on a run in the bottom of the 6th inning from a fielder’s choice hit by catcher Dayfran Ortiz that would score David Paiz 3-2.
Scary moment in the bottom of the 7th when the Cane Cutters left fielder Trey Hicks went chasing for a long line drive off the bat of Brian Portelli and hit the outfield wall in full stride. Hicks walked himself off the field thankfully and Portelli ended up with a triple. David Paiz came up after Portelli and drove the run in off of a single to send the game to extra innings once again 3-3.
The score would stay tied until the bottom of the 9th inning where the leadoff hitter Justin Pacchioli hit a walk off homerun to end the game 4-3.
