The Woodlands, TX – Stuart Springer made it three straight quality starts for the Generals, and Justin Pacchioli came up with the big hit off the bench. It was another rainy day on the road, but the Generals did not allow it to slow them down for too long, as they came away with the 3-1 victory and series sweep.
Victoria pushed across another early run in the second inning tonight. Cedric Vallieres reached base on a one-out single, moved to second on a single from David Paiz, and a third straight single off the bat of Dayfran Ortiz brought in the first run of the night.
It looked for several innings as that would be the only run needed, as Springer had thrown four scoreless innings to start the night.
The Generals had seven hits through three innings but were unable to manufacture another run.
The Strykers were able to tie it up in the bottom of the fifth. Shane Adams scored the tying run on a Garrett Lozano groundout. It looked initially to be a nice play by Springer, but it bounced away, and Pedro Barrios only had the play at first, allowing Adams to score easily.
There would be a stalemate in run supply for the next two innings. The Generals and Stykers both got runners to third during sixth and seventh but neither team was able to score.
That all changed when Pacchioli came off the bench in a rare pinch-hitting role with two runners aboard. He laced a triple down the right field line, scoring Blake Cooper and Ortiz.
The Strykers starter, Nolan Holland, threw very well over five innings but ended up without a decision. Hayden Barnett was also very good in four innings, but he took the loss.
For the Generals, Springer threw five innings and only allowed one run but would also take a no decision. Armando Arevalo came on to throw two innings of relief and picked up the win. Troy Ward and Jeff Chestnut tossed the final two frames, with Chestnut picking up his second straight save.
The Generals will back in Victoria opening up a four game home stand, starting against the Acadiana Cane Cutters Thursday night at 7:35. It will be Harley Davidson night. The first 150 fans will receive a bandana and all fans that drive their chopper out will get in for free, so come out and cheer on the Generals on another Thirsty Thursday/Bike Night at Riverside.
