May 31, 2014 – Pitching was dominant, Generals defense improved greatly, and the offense picked up where they left off from last night.
Pitcher Dakota Mills was on his game all night and the few times he did get into trouble, he quickly got out of the jam. He allowed six hits, two runs, four walks, and struck out nine Marshals batters over the course of seven strong innings.
Right out of the gate, the Generals came out firing. Alvaro Rondon, led the game off with a single and came around to score on a wild pitch. The runs would keep coming, as John Elson drove in two more in the second, giving the Generals a 3-0 lead after two. Elson would go on the offensive tear finishing the night going 2 for 5 with 3 RBI’s in his first start of the season. The Generals would never look back as they lead the entire game.
The Marshals managed to scrape across runs in the 3rd and 5th on a sac fly from James Stroud and a RBI double off the bat of Carlos Contreras. Outside of those two runs, the pitching was very dominant from the Generals, and the only hiccup came in the 8th when Miles Manning came in to relieve Mills.
However, Manning wouldn’t last long as he left the game with tightness in his arm. Troy Ward would replace him in the 8th and ended up finishing the game allowing only one hit.
Brian Portelli led off a big 5th inning for the Generals with a walk and would come around to score on a Kyle Danford triple. Cedric Vallieres followed with another walk, and a double steal scored Danford. Vallieres then came in on an error by the shortstop, which put Drake Roberts on base, and Elson brought Roberts in on a single.
Solo runs were also plated by the Generals in the 4th, 6th, and 7th.
Outside of Rondon and Elson, Blake Cooper also had a big night at the dish, going 2 for 5 with 2 RBI’s.
