May 14, 2014 – Opening day of the 2014 Texas Collegiate League summer baseball season is just two weeks away. The Victoria Generals continue to add the final pieces to their roster puzzle in preparation for the season. The Generals latest signees are James Swan, a right-handed pitcher, from the University of Texas and Ty Schlottmann, a left-handed pitcher, from Texas A & M University.
“UT and A & M are two of the best baseball programs in the country,” stated Mike Yokum , GM of the Generals. “These two young men have bright futures ahead of them and will be a great asset to the Generals this summer."
James Swan, a native of Orange, Texas , is a redshirt freshman this season. James was a three-year starter for coach Steve Griffith at Cypress-Mauriceville High School in Orange, Texas … played several positions, including pitcher, first base, third base, shortstop and outfield … for his career, posted a .390 batting average with a 2.74 ERA … was named to the first team All-District and Orange Leader Offensive MVP his senior season … was also The Record Offensive MVP and a member of the Beaumont Enterprise All Super Gold Team his senior season .
" We are excited to have a player from the University of Texas again this season," commented Yokum. "Last season was the first season we had a player from UT with Toller Boardman playing for the Generals. Toller was awesome, throwing 33 innings for us and was second on the team with 39 strikeouts."
Ty Schlottmann, a native of Brenham, Texas , is currently in his sophomore season with the Aggies. Ty has currently made 20 appearances this season with a 2.30 ERA and has held his opponent to a .230 batting average.
As a freshman, Schlottmann made eight relief appearances posting a 0.00 ERA with 5.1 innings of work.
At Brenham High School, Schlottmann played for coach Jim Long at Brenhan High School, lettering three years... helped lead BHS to the 2009 4A State Championship and the state semi-finals in both 2009 and 2010... as a sophomore (2009) went 8-1 with a 2.46 ERA, earning second team all-district honors... went 9-2 with a 2.21 ERA while also hitting .333 at the plate during BHS’s run to a state title as a junior (2010)... named first team All-Brazos Valley and second team 4A All-State by the Texas Sports Writers Association... during his senior season (2011) went 11-2 with a 2.26 ERA en route to first-team all-district accolades.
