The Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate league have announced that Mike Yokum will be named the next Vice President and General Manager of the team. Yokum will take over for the Generals current VP & GM Blake Koch who announced earlier in the summer that he will step down at the end of the 2013 season.
“I am thrilled to take on this role within the Generals organization and continue to build upon the solid foundation that has been laid over the course of the last five years,” stated Yokum.
Yokum’s wife, Erica, has served as the Generals’ Director of Ticketing and Merchandise for the last five years. The Yokum family has been involved with the Generals since the inaugural season back in 2009 as a host family for the team as well.
Yokum brings over 30 years of management experience to the organization with a strong background in human relations.
“The Yokum family has been a vital part of the Generals organization since day one,” stated Generals’ team president Tracy Young. “Mike will help us take that next step up the latter as we continue to expand operations and build towards the future.”
Koch, who started as the team’s assistant coach back in 2009 before becoming the GM at the end of the inaugural season, will step down into an advisor role within the Generals front office to help prepare the team for the 2014 season.
“I have loved every second of my time spent here in Victoria with the Generals and am thankful for the opportunities and experience that I received along the way,” commented Koch. “There is no one that I would rather hand the reins over to than Mike. I know that he will do a phenomenal job leading this organization into the future.”
The Generals play their final game of the 2013 regular season tonight at Riverside Stadium at 7:05pm. There will be a special pregame ceremony on the field starting at 6:45 as the Generals hand out team awards, honor a few host families, and retire former General Chad Kruse’s #55 jersey.
The Generals will host the Acadiana Cane Cutters in the first game of the TCL playoffs on Saturday night at 7:05pm. The winner will advance to the TCL Championship Series which begins on Sunday.
