The Victoria Generals will host their final two home games of the 2013 regular season on Thursday and Friday nights at Riverside Stadium in Victoria against the Woodlands Strykers.
In a special pregame ceremony on Friday night beginning at 6:45, the Generals plan to retire former General Chad Kruse’s #55 jersey.
Kruse played two seasons for the Generals in 2011 and 2012. Kruse is currently is the Generals all-time single-season leader in games played, at bats, runs scored, hits, and total bases. Kruse also holds the career records in all of those categories as well as doubles.
“Chad Kruse is the gold standard in terms of what we want out players to be like on the field and off,” stated Blake Koch, the Generals vice president and general manager. “Chad was one of the best players that we’ve ever had play for us and did a phenomenal job representing our organization in the community.”
Kruse recently completed his college career at the University of Houston-Victoria in the spring. He then played his first year of professional baseball with the Roswell Invaders of the Pecos League this summer.
Kruse hit .321 with 20 doubles, two triples, 38 RBI, 72 runs scored, 24 walks, and 8 stolen bases to help lead the Invaders to the 2013 Pecos League Championship.
During his career with the Generals, Kruse posted a .309 batting average with 26 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 59 RBI, 79 runs scored, 35 walks, and 19 stolen bases.
Kruse’s #55 will be the first number ever retired by the Victoria Generals.
The Generals will also hand out 2013 team awards during the pregame ceremony and honor two host families that have hosted players for all five years that the team has been in Victoria: Jack and Anna Daniels & Mike and Lisa Thornton. Former Generals assistant coach Shorty Cook and his 2013 Hallettsville Brahmas State Champion Baseball Team will also be on hand to be honored before the game as well.
Playoff tickets for the Generals opening round game are on sale now. The Generals will host the Acadiana Cane Cutters in a one-game playoff on Saturday, August 10 at 7:05pm at Riverside Stadium. The winner will advance to the TCL Championship Series. The Generals have made it to the Championship Series in thee of the last four years.
