The Brazos Valley Bombers received a walk-off infield single by G.R. Hinsley in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat the Victoria Generals by a final of 2-1 in Bryan on Friday night. With runners on first and third with one out, Hinsley hit a chopper to Generals shortstop Drew Featherston, but he was unable to make the transfer to second base to try to start the double play.
The Bombers win came on Roger Clemens night at American Momentum Bank Ballpark in Bryan. The Rocket himself was on hand and spoke with both teams prior to the game.
Toller Boardman was stellar once again for the Generals as he tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out seven. Boardman left the game with a 1-0 lead, but did not receive a decision in the game as the Bombers were able to tie it up in the eighth inning on an error by Generals third baseman Mac Seibert.
The Generals grabbed the lead at 1-0 in the third inning as Frank Cloutier delivered an RBI single, one of only three hits for the Generals on the night, to score Featherston. Brandon Hannon and David Paiz, Jr. had the other two hits for the Generals.
Texas A&M product Parker Ray shut down the Generals for most of the night as he allowed just one run on two hits with 10 strikeouts.
Shane Maltese picked up the win for the Bombers and Kaleb Keith received the loss for the Generals.
With the loss, the Generals fall to 15-11 on the season and the Bombers improve to 22-4.
The Generals return home to Victoria on Saturday to host the Acadiana Cane Cutters in the first game of a two-game series at 7:05pm at Riverside Stadium. Saturday night the Generals will celebrate General Buckshot’s birthday at the game. The first 200 kids at the game will receive party favors.
