Generals Snap Losing Streak, Beat Marshals 6-2

The Victoria Generals snapped their four-game losing streak on Tuesday night with a 6-2 victory over the Texas Marshals in Dallas. Daniel Tunchez, Jr. picked up his first win of the season tossing six innings and allowing just two runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts.

The Generals offense got to work early in the game as Brandon Hannon led off with a single, stole second base, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on a Romeo Cortina RBI single. Generals newcomer Jace Reese smacked a double in his first at bat with the team, but Cortina was thrown out trying to score on the play. Jordan Camel then singled to score Reese and put the Generals out in front 2-0.

Brett Hoffman led off the second inning with a walk and advanced to third on a double by J.D. Stinnett. Brandon Hannon then delivered a two-run single. Cortina added an RBI double later in the inning to plate Frank Cloutier who had walked to make the score 5-0.

Stinnett and Hannon executed a double steal in the fourth to plate Stinnett and make it 6-0 in favor of the Generals.

The Marshals made it 6-2 in the sixth inning on and RBI double by Taylor Munden and an RBI single by Cody Semler.

J.P. Clifton made his first appearance for the Generals in the game tossing two scoreless innings with one strikeout. Kaleb Keith pitched a perfect ninth inning with a strikeout to secure the win for the Generals.

Cortina and Camel each went 3-for-4 on the night with a double. Hannon stole three bases to up his league-leading total to 17 on the season.

With the win, the Generals improve to 14-9 and the Marshals fall to 7-16.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday night for game two of the series at 7:05pm at Jesuit High School in Dallas.
