What looked to be a promising night for the Victoria Generals turned for the worse quickly on Saturday night as they fell to the Woodlands Strykers 9-4.
The Generals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Frank Cloutier doubled to lead things off. Jacob Hubert the delivered an RBI single to score Cloutier. Hayden Vesely hit a two-run single later in the inning to score Romeo Cortina and Kyle Thornell.
The Strykers got a run back in the top of the 4th inning on an RBI single by Taylor Taska.
The Generals defensive woes began in the 5th inning as two more Strykers runs came into score on two errors on back-to-back plays to tie things up at 3-3.
Two more errors in the 6th inning led to two more Strykers runs, allowing them to take a 5-3 lead.
The Generals made it 5-4 in the 7th inning as Romeo Cortina doubled, stole third, and came into score on a wild pitch.
A Landon Merka RBI single made it 6-4 Strykers in the 8th before two more Generals errors in the 9th led to three more runs, making the final score 9-4.
With the loss, the Generals fall to 10-5 on the season and the Strykers improve to 4-10.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday night for game two of the series at 7:05pm at Riverside Stadium. Sunday is Dad’s Day at the Park presented by Chesnick Furniture. The first 100 men ages 18 and older at the park on Sunday will be registered for the chance to win lots of great prizes, including the grand prize: a recliner from Chesnick Furniture. Gates open at 6:00.
