Jacob Hubert went 2-for-4 on Friday night with a double, four RBIs, 2 runs, and a stolen base. Hubet leads the TCL in RBIs with 14.
Victoria Generals head coach Stephen Flora got exactly what he wished for on his birthday Friday night: a Generals win in Kilgore. One night after defensive miscues cost the Generals a chance at a win, the team responded with a 12-5 thumping of the East Texas Pump Jacks in game two of the series. The Generals provided plenty of run support for starter Toller Boardman who picked up his second win of the season.
The Generals wasted no time getting to work offensively as Brandon Hannon led off the game with a triple and came into score on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Hubert.
In the third inning, Hubert made it 2-0 as he singled, stole second base, advanced to third on a David Paiz, Jr. single, and came into score on passed ball.
The Generals broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning to make it 6-0. Hannon scored on a sacrifice fly by Paiz before Hubert came around on a Hayden Vesely double. Romeo Cortina then blasted his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.
The Pump Jacks got a run back in the sixth inning on a wild pitch, the only run of the game Boardman would allow as he went six innings with eight strikeouts.
The Generals erupted for six more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 12-1 lead. Paiz walked, stole second, advanced to third on an error by the catcher, and came into score on a single by Cortina. Vesely and Cortina would come into score on a two-run single by Brett Hoffman later in the inning. After loading the bases, Jacob Hubert delivered the big blow of the inning, a bases clearing double to score Hannon, Hoffman, and Drew Featherston.
After cruising through his first inning of relief in the seventh, the Pump Jacks touched up Chase Angelle for four runs in the eighth to cut the Generals lead to 12-5. Kaleb Keith on in relief and recorded the final four outs of the game to secure the win for the Generals.
Hubert, Cortina, and Hoffman each had multi-hit games for the Generals. Hubert finished the night with four RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Cortina added three RBIs, and two runs, and two stolen bases. Hoffman had two RBIs and one run.
With the win, the Generals improve to 6-2 on the season. The Pump Jacks fall to 4-3.
The Generals return home on Saturday night to take on the Woodlands Strykers in the first game of a two-game series. Saturday night is the Generals 5th annual Diamonds on the Diamond event presented by Torin Bales Fine Jewelry. The first 100 women ages 18 and older will be registered for the chance to win lots of great prizes, including the grand prize: diamond earrings from the Torin Bales Collection valued at $1,400.
