(Coppell, Tx) The first place Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League started their 4 game road trip Saturday evening with a 4-1 win over The Coppell Copperheads.
Tyler King threw 6 strong innings allowing only 1 run and striking out 8. Tom Filip and Chris Pena followed with a scoreless inning each while Zach Nuding picked up his fifth save of the season by striking out the side. King is now 4-1 on the seaon.
Brian Nephew and Mike Davis led the offense attack. Davis hit a solo home run in the 4th inning and scored 3 runs on the night. Nephew was 3 for 4 at the plate. Andrew Moore drove in the first run with a bases loaded single in the second, and Joey Kenworthy followed with a sacrifice fly. The Generals final run came in the ninth inning. Davis was safe at first on an error, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third and came home on Nephews double down the third base line.
The Generals finish their series with the Copperheads Sunday evening and then move on to Kilgore for a tough series with the second place East Texas Pumpjacks. The Generals have a game and half lead on the Pumpjacks in the TCL standings.
