April 24, 2013 – The Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League have announced the signing battery mates John Bormann and Nolan Trabanino from the University of Texas – San Antonio to the 2013 roster.
“John and Nolan have both had great seasons at UTSA and are two big additions to our summer roster,” stated Blake Koch, the vice president and general manager of the Victoria Generals.
Bormann, a sophomore catcher from Seguin, has started all 40 games this spring behind the plate for UTSA. He is currently hitting .311 on the season with 10 doubles, one home run, 21 RBIs, 24 runs scored, 14 walks, and two stolen bases.
Bormann has had a sensational year behind the plate, throwing out a 21 of the 37 runners who have tried to steal against him on the season. He’s also added 12 pickoffs on the year.
Bormann split time behind the plate as a freshman in 2012 and hit .211 in 76 at-bats with eight runs scored, five doubles, and four RBIs.
Bormann attended Navarro High School where he posted a career batting average of .407 with 28 doubles, seven triples, and 96 RBIs.
“John just might be the best defensive catcher in the state of Texas,” commented Koch. “He’s also had a really great season at the plate and we’ll rely on him to be a run producer in our lineup.”
Trabanino, a 6’3” left-handed pitcher, is having a solid freshman campaign at UTSA. Trabanino is 3-2 on the season with a 4.62 ERA. He has 27 strikeouts in 48.2 innings of action.
Trabanino attended Clear Brook High School where he posted a 4-3 record as a senior with a 0.81 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 69.2 innings.
“Nolan has the frame and profile to be a future draft pick,” commented Koch. “He has a high ceiling and will get a lot of quality game experience for us this summer on the mound.”
