The Victoria Generals have announced the addition of two new players with ties to the Southland Conference. Pitchers Chase Angelle, a redshirt sophomore from Lamar University, and Kyle Cross, a junior from the Stephen F. Austin State University, will play for the Generals in the summer of 2013.
“The Texas Collegiate League always has a large number of players from the Southland Conference,” stated Blake Koch, GM of the Generals. “We feel that these two young men will come in and have a positive impact on our pitching staff this summer.”
Chase Angelle, an Orange, Texas native, appeared in 12 games last season at Lamar in relief as a redshirt freshman. Angelle tossed 15.1 innings, allowing just six earned runs for a 3.52 ERA. The left-handed pitcher redshirted at Lamar as a freshman in 2011.
Angelle has made four appearances on the year for Lamar this season with one start. He is currently 1-0 with a 3.12 ERA and six strikeouts in 8.2 innings of work.
“Chase is a solid left-handed pitcher that will compete for a starting spot in our rotation,” commented Koch. “He has a great track record as a relief pitcher at Lamar but will most likely be a starter for them as a junior next year.”
Kyle Cross, a native of Pearland, Texas, transferred to SFA after two seasons at Wharton County Junior College. As a sophomore, Cross posted a 2-7 record with a 5.52 ERA. Cross struck out 42 and walked 17 in 62 innings.
Cross is currently 2-1 on the season in four appearances with three starts. Cross has allowed just three earned runs in 22.2 innings for a 1.19 ERA with 10 strikeouts and just one walk.
“Kyle will also give us the option of using him as a starter or reliever,” stated Koch. “He’s comfortable in both roles and has already gained some valuable experience during his college career.”
