Dillon Newman picked up his 3rd win of the season in game one on Wednesday night.
The Victoria Generals traveled to Lafayette, Louisiana on Wednesday to take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters and split a double header to start their five-game road trip.
The Generals won the first game by a final score of 5-2 behind a solid outing by starting pitcher Dillon Newman who picked up his third win of the season. Newman tossed six inning, allowing just two runs on five hits with five strike outs.
The Generals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Trent Wagner, who had reached base on an error to lead off the game, came around to score on an RBI double by Chad Kruse.
The Cane Cutters tied it up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on an error by Generals catcher Eric Weiss following a dropped third strike which would have been the final out of the inning.
The game remained tied until the top of the sixth inning. Carter Mangum and Kruse hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Mangum would score on an error by the Cane Cutters first baseman. Alex Klonowski then drove in Kruse on an RBI single before Kyle Chaskin singled home Jude Vidrine to make the score 4-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Cane Cutters got a run back to make the score 4-2, but the Generals would score again in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Weiss to score Kruse.
James Ferguson pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his first save of the season and give the Generals the 5-2 victory.
Tyler Schnuriger turned in his best outing of the summer in game two for the Generals. Schnuriger pitched eight inning, allowing just one run on four hits with five strikeouts, but did not factor in the decision as the game went into extra innings.
Tanner Green came onto pitch the ninth for the Generals and allowed a walk-off single to Tyler Kamtz to give the Cane Cutters the 2-1 win.
The Cane Cutters got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning with a single run off of Schnuriger.
The Generals were able tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Brandon Tierney to score Vidrine.
With the double header split, the Generals move to 27-22 on the season and the Cane Cutters go to 22-27.
The Generals will continue their road trip with a single game in Alexandria against the Aces on Thursday night at 7:05pm.
