Freddy Villalobos was selected to the All-TCL Team as a second baseman in 2011.
The Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League have announced that Freddy Villalobos, a member of the 2011 team, will return to Victoria to finish out the 2012 summer season with the Generals.
Villalobos was selected to the All-TCL team as a second baseman in 2011 and finished tied for third place in the TCL Player of the Year ballot with teammate Chad Kruse.
“Freddy is a special player and we’re lucky to get him back with us in time to finish the summer as we make a push towards the playoffs,” commented Blake Koch, Victoria’s general manager.
Villalobos finished the 2011 season with a .279 average and a league-leading 15 doubles. He also added six home runs which ranked second in the league. Villalobos had 40 RBIs on the season, which tied him for the league lead and left him just one RBI shy of tying the TCL record in the category. Villalobos walked 22 times, scored 34 runs, and added 10 stolen bases.
“Freddy was a staple in the middle of our lineup last summer and was a big-time run producer,” stated Koch. “He’ll mix in well with the group of guys that we have and provide some depth for us by playing all over the infield.”
Villalobos recently completed his junior season at Stephen F. Austin State University where he batted .296 with 12 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 26 RBIs, and 28 runs scored.
The Generals are currently 25-16 on the season and have already secured a spot in the TCL postseason by finishing in second place in the first-half. The Generals are off on Tuesday and will travel to Bryan to take on the Brazos Valley Bombers on Wednesday night at 7:05pm.
The Generals return home for a five-game home stand starting on Thursday night at 7:05pm. Thursday night is VC Night at the Ballpark as well as Thirsty Thursday. All students, faculty, and staff that present a VC ID card at the ticket gate on Thursday night will receive $2 off general admission tickets. Draft beer will be $1 all game long on Thursday as well.
