Jordan Pacheco picked up his 4th win of the season on Friday night
For the second straight night, the Generals held onto a late led to close out a ballgame in the ninth inning. This time, it was to keep hold of a 5-4 lead to defeat the Acadiana Cane Cutters at Riverside Stadium in Victoria on Friday night.
With the 5-4 lead in the ninth inning, Dallas Ponder returned to the mound for his second inning of work to try to close the game out for the Generals. He allowed a leadoff double to Mike Barba that hit halfway up the leftfield wall and narrowly missed being a solo home run. After a sacrifice bunt to move Barba to third, Ponder got Mitchell Nau to ground out to first base and then retired Adam seal on a flyout to right field to end the game.
The Generals received another stellar performance from starting pitcher Jordan Pacheco who picked up his league-leading fourth win of the season. Pacheco went 7.1 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
The Cane Cutters got on the board in the top of the third inning on a RBI single by Issac Rodriguez. They made it 2-0 in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Andrew Brown.
The Generals answered in the bottom half of the sixth. Blue Hybner led off with a single before Billy Richard blasted his third home run of the season down the leftfield line to tie the game up at 2-2.
In the seventh, the Generals loaded the bases with no outs. Trace Knoblauch pinch hit for Hybner and drove home Patrick Duncan on an RBI single. Brandon Tierney scored on a passed ball and before Chad Kruse delivered an RBI single to score Alex Klonowski to make the score 5-2.
The Cane Cutters scored two more in the top of the eighth, but were unable to complete the comeback as Ponder closed things out in the ninth.
The Generals improved 15-8 on the season as the Cane Cutters fell to 12-11.
The Generals head to the Dallas area on Saturday to take on the McKinney Marshals at 4:00pm at Jesuit High School.
