Patrick Duncan scored a run and had two RBIs to help the Generals beat the Bombers 3-2 on Thursday night
The Victoria Generals traveled to Bryan on Friday night with their sights set on taking down the Brazos Valley Bombers for a second-straight time. It was a successful mission as the Generals clung to a 3-2 lead late in the ballgame to pick up the team's 14th win of the season.
The Generals struck first, scoring a run in the top of the second on an error by Bombers third baseman Brennyn Smith.
James Wathon hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Bombers a 2-1 lead. Those were the only two runs that Generals starting pitcher Trae Davis would give up on the night. Davis went five innings and allowed just three hits with two strikeouts in his first start of the season.
The Generals answered with two runs of their own in the top of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Patrick Duncan shot a single into left field to score Chad Kruse and Jude Vidrine.
Jeremy Flores came on in the bottom of the sixth to relieve Davis and retired the side. After getting the first out in the bottom of the seventh, Flores was lifted for Dillon Newman who came in and closed the game out for the Generals.
Newman went 2.2 innings without allowing a hit and fanned four batters to pick up his first save of the season.
With the win, the Generals improved to 14-8 on the season and passed the Bombers in the league standings to move into second place. The Bombers fell to 14-9 and are now a half-game behind the Generals.
The Generals return home on Friday night to host the Acadiana Cane Cutters at 7:05pm at Riverside Stadium in Victoria. Friday night is Faith and Family Night presented by Klean Corp International. A pregame concert by Christian rock band Table 4 Twelve will begin at 5:00. Guest speakers for the night will include former Generals head coach Ryan Wagner and current Generals outfielder Eric Weiss.
