Covey Morrow picked up his 3rd win of the season on Saturday night
A night after getting shutout by the East Texas Pump Jacks in Kilgore, the Victoria Generals traveled to Lafayette, Louisiana and shutout the Acadiana Cane Cutters 4-0 in the first game of a two-game series on Saturday night.
Covey Morrow was dominant for the Generals on the mound, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out six to earn his third win on the season.
The Generals scored all four of their runs in the top of the third inning and were aided by two errors in the inning by the Cane Cutters defense. Trace Knoblauch led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Alex Klonowski reached on an error by the third baseman. Carter Mangum singled home Knoblauch to plate the first run of the game.
Billy Richard then reached first base on an error by Cane Cutter's starting pitcher Sean Kennel. Chad Kruse drove home Klonowski on a sacrifice fly.
After a ground out, Eric Weiss, the leading hitter in the Texas Collegiate League, came up next and drilled a single to drive home Mangum and Richard to make the score 4-0.
Generals closer Tanner Green pitched the final two innings without allowing a hit.
The Generals improved to 11-7 on the season as the Cane Cutters fell to 10-8.
The two teams will play game two of the series at Fabacher Field at 7:05pm on Sunday night.
