Victoria Native Tunchez Picked Up by Generals

The home opener for the Victoria Generals 2012 season has arrived.  The Generals picked up their first two wins of the season on Friday and Saturday nights against the Woodlands Strykers and Acadiana Cane Cutters on the road and are already sitting by themselves at the top of the league standings at 2-0.

Tonight, the Generals will take on the Cane Cutters at 7:05pm at Riverside Stadium in Victoria.  The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a magnet schedule courtesy of Mr. Payroll Check Cashing.

Victoria native Daniel Tunchez is the Generals first mid-season pick-up of the year.  Tunchez just completed his freshman season at Eastfield College.

Tunchez made nine appearances on the season at Eastfield and posted a 2-1 record with a 5.21 ERA.  He allowed just 17 hits in 19 innings to go along with 29 strikeouts.

Despite only being 5’10” and 175 pounds, Tunchez has a fastball that can reach in the mid-90s.

Tunchez graduated from Memorial High School, but focused on basketball during his prep career.

“Daniel has a great arm that just needs a little polishing and refining,” stated Blake Koch, Victoria’s general manager.  “Daniel will benefit greatly from working with Coach Clemons this summer and getting some good game-time experience in our league.”

Season tickets for all 30 of the Generals home games this season are on sale now.  Fans can buy season tickets and team merchandise at the Generals team store located at 3708 North Navarro, Suite A in the Landmark Shopping Center, online at www.VictoriaGenerals.com, or by calling 361-485-9522.
