Calvin "Shorty" Cook
The Victoria Generals have announced that Calvin “Shorty” Cook will return as the team’s assistant coach for the 2012 Texas Collegiate League summer season.
Cook, a native and current resident of Yoakum, TX, is currently the head baseball coach at Hallettsville High School. Cook was hired at Hallettsville in 2007 to replace Texas high school coaching legend Jim Appelt.
Prior to Cook’s time at Hallettsville he served as the assistant coach at Brazoswood High School in 1993, as the assistant coach at Yorktown High School from 1995-1997, and as the head coach at Yorktown from 1998-2006.
As a head coach, Cook has led his teams to four district championships and has reached the state playoffs nine times.
Cook’s playing career began at Yoakum High School where he was a four-year starter on the baseball team for legendary coach Jace Wood from 1984-1987. Cook then moved on to play at Angelina Junior College in 1988 and 1989. Cook finished his collegiate playing career at Tarleton State University in 1990 and 1991.
In 1992, Cook graduated from TSU with a bachelors of science in exercise science and sports studies.
